| Some Frequently Asked Questions |
Q: Why can't I save converted files as MP3 in Windows Vista ?
A: You can, but you'll need to install additional free software prior to running Repacer. The reason for this as that in Windows Vista, Microsoft removed the mp3 encoder that was distributed with previous versions of Windows (due to various patent issues).
Q: Will Repacer work with my iTunes files ?
A: Repacer can directly process files of formats mp3,wma,wav,ogg,au and aiff. iTunes uses a format named m4p that uses digital encryption to prevent the files from being freely used by everyone (this is known as DRM or Digital Rights Management). So before Repacer can process iTunes files, these files must first be converted to one of the formats Repacer can recognize.
One method of doing this is simply to burn the files you wish to use from iTunes to a CD and then use Repacer to process the files directly from that CD.
Another method is to use various utilities that can convert the m4p format to one of the open formats that Repacer can process. Running a search on keywords m4p,wav,convert will reveal quite a few - though not all of them use methods which are completely ligit. One tool which is fast and legal is Tunebite Premium or Tunebite Platinum.
The difference between the Premium and Platinum versions is summarized in the table below:
| Tunebite Functions | Premium | Platinum | Recording of copy-protected audio, music and audio book files | Yes | Yes | High-Speed Digital Dubbing at turbo speed (speed is processor dependant) | Yes | Yes | Recognition of audio files that have already been processed | Yes | Yes | Listening to a file while recording another | Yes | Yes | Background operability | Yes | Yes | Automatic configuration of recording level and device for analog copies | Yes | Yes | Recording level display with oscilloscope monitor | Yes | Yes | Normalization of music recordings for uniform volume | Yes | Yes | Automatic population of ID3 tags, album cover artwork and lyrics | Yes | Yes | CD burning function for audio and MP3 CDs | Yes | Yes | Extended file folder administration by artist and album | Yes | Yes | Synchronization with MP3 players, Apple iPods, PDAs and mobile phones | Yes | Yes | Mobile phone ring tone generator | Yes | Yes | Recording of copy-protected video files | No | Yes | Automatic configuration of video recording parameters | No | Yes | Preservation of A/V synchronization during CPU load peaks | No | Yes | Video encoder for MPEG4, enhanceable with 3ivx encoders | No | Yes |
